Carry a first aid kit for the Road

When we are preparing our backpack keep in mind include a small first aid kit with the essentials. Don´t forget that along the road we will go through different villages and we will have the opportunity to go to the pharmacy in case you need something very specific, or even be able to visit a health center if it was something more serious. But it is desirable to have the basics in your backpack for what might happen.

Blisters, muscle injury, stiffness … These will be the normal pains we will feel, all caused by walking more than usual. With this in mind, our kit could consist of:

  • Betadine disinfectant type.
  • Strips, cotton bandages and tape.
  • A small scissors.
  • Kit for blisters: Needle, thread; sterile syringe and needle and dressings compeed type.
  • Vaseline, salt and rosemary alcohol for foot care.
  • Cream for muscle pain.
  • Anti-inflammatory and analgesic.
  • Baking or pills for heartburn.

Also, do not forget sunscreen especially in the spring and summer, and a mosquito protection.

    Take care of your feet every day

    If you do not take care of our feet will not get very far. They are our main allies and we must give them the care they deserve.

    This hygiene is essential. We have to wash our feet well after each stage, preferably with cold water. If we use soothing salts, much better. It will help to reduce fatigue. We may also use special deodorants for feet.

    You can also wash your feet before starting the hike, but in this case never use the water too hot, because the skin is weakened and facilitates blisters.

    Shoes, of course, be comfortable and have to be used to it. For wear boots, we wear two pairs of socks. Below the finest sock and seams out  to prevent chafing. It is very important not to have wet socks at any time (by water or sweat). Feet should always be kept dry.

    Something very handy is being advised. No best tips shared during the Camino. There pilgrims experienced and sometimes should listen to their recommendations.

      Combat fatigue during the Way

      Fatigue is one of our enemies for the route, but it should not scare us. Although it is normal to feel fatigued, we can easily fight if we follow some tips.

      We will walk many kilometers, cold or heat, and carrying our backpack. So the rest will be essential. The ideal is to stand before to become exhausted. The recovery will be faster.

      In fact, rest one full day if you consider it necessary, this will allow you to deal with a lot more energy for the rest of the Way.

      When we speak of rest we refer to rest in the hostel and also breaks during the stage.

      If in the course of the day we are exhausted, we can stop to rest in the shade of a tree, especially after eating, our bodies will appreciate a little rest. Do not forget that the road is primarily for enjoyment.

      And remember that the best thing to prevent muscle fatigue is to drink a lot, but slowly. Energy drinks that allow us to replenish minerals, especially the days above 30 km, is recommended.

      Massage can also help regain strength. Massaging your own legs and feet can be very relaxing and help you rest better.
